4th Annual Kelsey Saturday

Saturday, April 25, 2009

\

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.  On October 11, 2005 despite nine months of documented abuse,

Kelsey Briggs died, becoming one of 47 Oklahoma children who fell through the cracks of the very system put in

place to protect them.

Kelsey's story has touched the lives of people not only in Oklahoma, but the rest of the country and around the world.

As stated on the website created in her memory, www.KelseysPurpose.org, “she was put here to make a difference

- to make sure other children are protected.”

As National Child Abuse Prevention Month comes to a close, each year we honor this precious child’s memory and

the reform that has already begun following her tragic passing.  The people she left behind and the people she never

met have united to stand against child abuse—to make sure other children, all children, are protected.

Annually on the last Saturday of April, groups come together to stand united against child abuse.  Groups are

organized on a community level and are responsible for distributing child abuse awareness and prevention information.

Groups also distribute Kelsey's signature heart-shaped stickers bearing her name, image and the Kelsey's Purpose

website.  Each group gathers a list of resources local to their area which is distributed with the awareness brochure.
